Geophysical engineering, by using specific methods and equipment, is developing applications made especially to help in projects and investigations with immediate applicability.
Engineering projects destined for infrastructure development (roads, bridges, railways, buried pipes and cables) and for water supply network, evaluation of mineral resources in quarries and gravel pits, are in most of the time in close relationship with the good understanding of the geological and hydro-geological characteristics of the underground. The study the aquifer pollution with inorganic contaminants, non-destructive archeological survey, identifying and localizing buried objects (pipes, cables, reservoirs, unexploded bombs) are practical applications to which geophysics can come up with solutions and specific technical approach.
Surveying shallow or high depth drill holes is a special type of application, destined to bring new information about the geological and hydro-geological characteristics of the rock layers through which the borehole is drilled. This application is the only one capable to regain geological information there where it was lost or it is insufficient.
For better understand of such investigation you can follow a short presentation of the main geophysical methods.
